Sweet Blessings with Nian Gao - 步步高升年糕

Higher blessings by eating Nian Gao? Yes please. Celebrate CNY with Sai Hing’s various dry fruits such as pine nuts, dates and dried longan pulp. Add them to the auspicious Nian Gao and enjoy the toothsome harmony of sweetness and blessings!

Ingredients: (Recommended weight/unit, can be adjusted according to your tastes/liking!)
Banana Leaves – 2 pieces
Sugar – 300g
Glutinous Rice Flour – 300g
Sai Hing Pine Nuts (Amount based on your own preference) 
Sai Hing Dried Longan Pulp (Amount based on your own preference) 
Sai Hing Red Dates (Amount based on your own preference) 

Yield: 2 ramekins

Cooking Time: 2 hours

Directions:


Step 1. Boil half a pot of water and rinse through the banana leaves.

Step 2. Pour 300g of sugar into another pot and stir occasionally (Note: Do not over-stir the sugar). Then, add 300ml of water to the sugar mixture and stir it.

Step 3. Cut the banana leaves into strips and gently lower them onto ramekins. Next, cut off the excess banana leaves and tie the rubber band over the banana leaves.

Step 4. Slowly pour the sugar mixture into 300g of glutinous rice flour. Mix it well and repeat the procedure. Mix until the consistency is smooth. Then, add Sai Hing pine nuts and dried longan pulp. Mix it well.

Step 5. Gently fill up the ramekins with the Nian Gao batter and let it steam for 2 hours. Finally, add Sai Hing red dates on top as a finishing touch and it is ready to serve!
